A process that allows us to clean between the gums and the roots of the teeth to clear away any disease-causing bacteria that may be present. Usually recommended when gum disease is present, scaling and root planing help prevent more damage to the gums and teeth.
Scaling and root planing is a technique often used to treat gum disease and remove plaque and tartar stuck above and below the gumline that a normal cleaning or standard brushing can’t remove.
The two-step process includes scaling, which removes plaque and tartar above or below the gum line, while root planing soothes the tooth root and helps the gums re-attach to the tooth.
